Virtual Treatment Update: Parkinson's Disease and Essential Tremor

Speakers:  Dr. Eleanor Orehek, Noran Neurological Clinic
                   Dr. Kyle Nelson, Metropolitan Neurosurgery

Virtual Program Description/Purpose: Parkinson’s Disease and Essential Tremor are progressive neurological conditions that are typically managed with medication. Medication management of these conditions can become difficult for the patients as the conditions progress. This program is designed to provide attendees with information on surgical management of Parkinson’s Disease and Essential Tremor as an alternative to medication-only management.

Target Audience: Physicians and nurses who work with Parkinson’s Disease and Essential Tremor patients.

Date: Tuesday, October 27, 2020
Time: 5:30-7:00PM
Cost: There is no cost for this virtual program.

Learning Objectives: This virtual program prepares providers to:

  1. Identify symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease and Essential Tremor that can be treated through deep   brain stimulation surgery; identify patients who would be good candidates for treatment with deep brain stimulation vs. medication management alone.
  2. Describe the pre-surgical testing process that Parkinson’s Disease and Essential Tremor patients will undergo prior to surgery.
  3. Identify the details of deep brain stimulation surgery for Parkinson’s Disease and Essential Tremor   patients, along with the risks.
  4. Identify what Parkinson’s Disease and Essential Tremor patients should expect after their surgery (specifically, post operative programming of their DBS system).

Registration: This event has been cancelled.
